7/7/2005 Julie A. Roy julielakerfan@hotmail.com I've recently re-located from SoCal to the great Northwest.  Left behind my flower shop, condo etc. and am now taking classes in Allied Health at the local community college to get my foot (healthy ones after 50 years on insulin) in the door of the health care community.  I'd love follow in my mother's steps as a nurse, and be able to take of myself in my old age. I have wonderful, incredible memories of Camp DASC and Camp Conrad; singing at campfire, acting in skits, playing the guitar.  Doc Chinnock and his family were like my second family and he (and my Mom) helped me to learn to control this diabetes thing so that at middle age I can start a new, exciting career.  If there is anyone from Camp DASC or Camp Conrad who wants to connect...get in touch.  I'm ready to walk down memory lane. Thank! Jerry Chinnock, Thom Brock and Carol, Winnona and Sharon, Bobby B (from Highland), Kathy Helash, Ron Seig, Katrina (from near Griffith Park) camper-1958-1966  staff--1967-1969

10/22/2003 Douglas Holt douglas.holt@ucr.edu I'm working for the University of California in Riverside as a Teaching Laboratory Coordinator. I'm married for 23 years and we have one son in college. This year marked my 50th birthday and 40 years of type one diabetes. This summer we made three backing trips, two in  the Sierra Nevada and one locally in the San Bernardino mountains for a total of 60+ miles. Dr. Chinnock was my physician at Loma Linda University Hospital.   '64-'68
1/21/2004 Gary Toogood highcountry@direcway.com Hi to all. Loved Camp (Camp DASC back then). Miss Camp. It was a big part of my life. The Big News is that I am no longer technically a diabetic -- after 32 years of diabetes with no complications, my kidneys went south on me in 1994 -- was on the transplant list for only 2 weeks when I received a kidney-pancreas transplant at University of Miami. Now I'm 47 and life is great, health is great -- no insulin shot since 1/09/95 -- eat anything I want.  My wife and I live on a small ranch north of Lake Tahoe. I'm a real estate appraiser and I love to hike, snow ski & rock climb.  Found Randy Lay in Provo, UT -- and Andy Krause in N. Hollywood. Gary Brian Toogood 530-288-3677. Would love to hear from anyone, especially Michelle Wilt, Nancy Joneitz, Dean Carter, Robbie Walker, Bruce Pelham, and anyone else. 1964-1971

Still looking for the rest of our fellow campers. Please call if you know any of us. Would love to hear how you all are doing.    1965? to Jr staff .
11/16/2005 Bobby Drake b9dra@aol.com Just a short update for those of you who remember the fun years at Camp DASC.  That's what it was called.  I'm still alive and moving under my own power.  Thank GOD for the early days of camp cause I thought I was the only diabetic in the world.  Dr Chinnock and Dr. Nations were both great men.  They should be entered in the Noble Peace Prize for helping young diabetics learn that we can live life without fear of being different.  I sure miss those days.  Yes I'm a diabetic and I still test 5 times a day, but for those of you who can remember.  CLINITEST Tablets SUCKED.  That's it from here.  If your interested in more news from the past, send me a note.   1961-1964
1/22/2005 Jill Meyer jillmarie61@sbcglobal.net I am currently living in the Southern California area.  I graduated from college and majored in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, although after years of having problems with my hands (carpel tunnel), I am now interested in a career change. I am currently taking care of my disabled elderly mother after the death of my father a few years ago.  I haven't had too many serious complications after 43 years of diabetes this Feb (05).  I have an 18 year old daughter, Meghan, who was born the fall after my last year of working at camp.  She is graduating this spring from high school.  She is interested in majoring in geophysics/astrophysics, and is being courted by many colleges.   Anyone that remembers me!  Maybe we can all have a reunion sometime! 1967-1986 camper first and then staff in 1980
9/20/2005 Rochelle (Berri) Smith MOMTOJOZS5@AOL.COM Camp Chinnock was a good experience. I found out there really are a lot of diabetics out there. I often went to camp along with my cousin Lori Campbell.  Well here I am now, diabetic 38 years, RN for 25 years.  I live in Virginia and am the mother of two beautiful children, Jozsua 5 and Rochelle 4.  I have lots of memories of camp as a camper, but I will never forget the year I was a camp nurse.  I had just gotten my nursing degree and I remember kids I could not get to do there own shots cause they were scared.  I let them practice on me.  They didn't always want to, but why not I had to take a shot anyways!!!!!  It was great to see their excitement when they did give their own shot.  Hope all are doing well.  If any remember or want to get in touch please do.   Camper 1969-1974, Camp nurse 1980

4/26/2004 Kerry Wolk finnfan1kw@sbcglobal.net What an adventure it has been. I've traveled the world and always felt that camp was my home or at least my 2nd home. Doc. Chinnock was my pedi. doctor and told my mother about a great place for me to experience a whole new world which I never knew about. It was a world with other diabetics. It was one of the best growth experiences ever in my life. I met lifelong friends. I spent my youth at camp and worked up there also. I kept in touch with Curls throughout the years. My son developed diabetes at the age of 4yrs. and he has attended camp and family camp. I work in retail at a Lowe's Home Improvement store. I will be hitting 42yrs with diabetes in July of this years with no complications. Live long and prosper....and may your A1c's be at a normal non-diabetics level!    1971
